Cover Up Clips is a small family-run business, started by
owner/inventor Heidi Bingham. Our goal is to make wonderfully
useful products to add a little bit of comfort and privacy
into parents’ and childrens’ lives.
Why
Cover Up Clips Were Created
My first son, Parker, was a very “active” eater. While feeding
him in the classic position, he would routinely raise his arm
and beat it on my chest. He would also become easily
distracted and look around to see what was going on. While in
public, I would struggle with modesty since a baby blanket
would never seem to stay above waist level as I tried to hold
his arm or reattach him. It was very frustrating, and I began
to avoid being out in public during feeding times. When my son
started having growth spurts , he would want to eat
approximately every hour and a half. Well, I just couldn’t
stay home anymore. Plus, I had to let the sofa regain its
natural shape! So I found that when the baby’s dinner bell
rang, I had to do what I had to do. And, let’s face it --
Nordstrom lounges are the luxury not the norm.
Although I believe that breastfeeding is a very natural thing
to do, I didn’t find it natural to expose myself in the middle
of a shopping mall or a restaurant.. And so I came up with the
idea for Cover Up Clips – a cute yet functional device to hold
a blanket or cover in place while breastfeeding. It was
wonderful because I had confidence and was to be able to use
my own blanket that I had with me anyway, and not some large,
bulky screen that screamed “I am breastfeeding over here.”
When I began to use my new “product”, I found many other uses
besides nursing privacy. For example, Cover Up Clips also
work great for securing a blanket to the hoods of strollers
and car seats to keep out the sun, wind, and sometimes even
well-meaning strangers. And, after tiring of continually
tucking a blanket in and around the baby pack only to find it
had come loose again and was 10 feet behind me, I found that
my Cover Up Clips easily attached to the straps giving me
peace of mind. I spoke to many excited moms about my invention
and after having a second child, I decided it was time to put
my ideas into a product that would benefit other parents and
children.
